Summary

Presented by CELA's Public Employee Committee, this webinar will discuss the new law protecting California public employee union members and how to win attorneys’ fees from a public employer who discourages union representation.

Former state senator Connie Levya co-sponsored Senate Bill 931, newly codified as Gov Code Section 3551.5. This law empowers the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) to award attorney fees to a union after finding a public employer discouraged union membership or union representation.

Attorney Susan Garea has extensive experience litigating before PERB, including on the issue of attorneys’ fees. Lobbyist Matt Broad will be available to answer questions about the political landscape before and after passage of the law.
