Summary

Constructively Calling Out Racism:
How To Use Adverse Witnesses In Deposition and Trial To Establish Claims of Race Discrimination
Co-Sponsored by CELA's Immigrant Employee Rights and Racial Justice Committees

Calling out racism directly may inflame witnesses or jurors when there is no obvious racist behavior or speech. Most individuals know that it is wrong to use hate speech or to discriminate based on race, however, individuals who harbor racial prejudice or bias still discriminate in more subtle ways. This webinar attempts to guide participants on methods of educating jurors and judges in trial about unobvious forms of racism and discrimination from opening statements, to witness examinations, and closing arguments.  The panel will also explore strategies on how to use adverse witnesses in depositions and trial to establish claims for racial discrimination at work.

This webinar will qualify for 1.25 hours Implicit Bias/Bias-Reducing Strategies (Elimination of Bias) MCLE credit.
CELA is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider, #2292.
